Mindfulness as A Living Practice
When practiced regularly, meditation has the power to create greater
physical health, emotional equilibrium, mental clarity and a sense of
peace. Most importantly, meditation can lead us to a deeper
understanding of our true nature. So, how do we get there? By
cultivating mindfulness, we tap into the essence of meditation:
awareness.
Join Rhoda for this 15-hour weekend class that includes the study of
Mindfulness Meditation from classical Buddhist methods to
contemporary techniques. Because this exploration includes both
classical and contemporary mindfulness practices, students will learn
how to support the mind/body approach to healing and wellness.
During this class, students will learn about and integrate aspects such
as the Four Foundations, the Four Noble Truths, as well as practice
breathing methods of mindfulness and techniques like Vipassana and
Metta. Some of the more contemporary approaches will also offer skills
for living more mindfully as a daily part of life. Part of this experiential
program includes the unique opportunity to practice many of the
methods learned during a silent retreat.
This is an interactive, experiential approach designed to provide skills to
increase knowledge and personal understanding of meditation.
Students will be sitting as well as walking and moving gently. Please
bring a journal and any small personal items/photos for the creation of
a sacred space. Wear comfortable clothing. Bring a meditation
cushion or bench if you have one. Chairs, mats and blankets will be
provided.
